AMBIENT-6G

On Monday September 22, 2025, researchers from the SNS JU projects AMBIENT-6G, SuperIoT, and Hexa-X-II came together in Leuven, Belgium for the 2nd Workshop on Energy Neutral and Sustainable IoT Devices and Infrastructure (En-IoT), co-located with the EWSN 2025 conference. It was an exciting afternoon, full of inspiring presentations and discussions. During his keynote talk, Prof. David Bol argued the need for science-based life-cycle assessment (LCA) of IoT devices and technologies, in order to properly assess the ecological footprint. He argued that without LCA in the loop,
eco-innovation efforts are likely to lead to burden shifting by missing the environmental hotspots and may thus be qualified as greenwashing. Additionally, the programme included several interesting technical talks on hybrid radio-optical IoT networks, energy-aware task execution, and energy consumption modelling of cellular IoT technologies. Finally, several live demos were shown by the SuperIoT consortium.
